St Mirren have sold Irish midfielder Roland Idowu to Romanian top-flight club Botosani for an undisclosed fee. The deal also incorporates a sell-on clause, giving St Mirren a percentage of any future transfer fee should Idowu move on again.

Idowu, 24, left St Mirren after 80 appearances and eight goals for the club. The move to Botosani follows his permanent signing with the Paisley side last summer, after a season on loan from Shrewsbury Town.

Idowu's St Mirren Career

Idowu arrived at St Mirren on a one-year loan from Shrewsbury Town in the summer of 2023. He quickly became a regular in the midfield, contributing both defensively and offensively. Over the course of his loan spell he made 35 appearances and scored three goals. His performances convinced the club to offer him a permanent contract, which he signed on a two-year deal in the summer of 2024.

During his time at St Mirren, Idowu was praised for his work rate, passing accuracy and ability to break up opposition play. He played a key role in several important fixtures, including a memorable 2-1 win over Celtic where he provided an assist and was named man of the match.
