St Mirren were overwhelmed in a 5-0 defeat away to Hearts at Tynecastle Park on Saturday. The heavy loss sees the Buddies drop to seventh in the Premiership, with ten points from their opening eight games.
Laurent Mendy opened the scoring for the hosts in the 20th minute. Calvin Miller then converted two first-half penalties, the second after a foul on James Wilson, to put Hearts in complete control. Cláudio Braga added a fourth early in the second half, assisted by Miller, before Josh McPake completed the scoring with ten minutes remaining.
One-sided contest
Hearts dominated the match, registering 18 attempts to St Mirren's solitary shot on target. Killian Phillips had a shot turned over the bar for the visitors, while goalkeeper Beau Reus made a strong late save to deny Calvin Ramsay. The comprehensive nature of the defeat is reflected in St Mirren's recent form, which now reads four consecutive losses. The team has conceded 12 goals during this losing run, while scoring only once themselves.
Looking ahead
Stephen Robinson's side must regroup quickly ahead of a trip to face Aberdeen at Pittodrie next weekend. The Buddies will be looking to replicate their last result against the Dons, a 2-0 home win in April, to halt their slide. St Mirren currently sit seventh with 10 points from 9 matches played.
