St Mirren produced a thrilling nine-minute comeback but were held to a 3-3 draw by Motherwell after a stoppage-time equaliser on Sunday in Paisley. The Saints, who sit 2nd in the Premiership with 7 points from three games, fought back from two goals down in front of 5,000 fans only to be denied at the death.
Alfred Johansson made three changes to his starting lineup following the club's UEFA Conference League exit. His side found themselves trailing after Tawanda Maswanhise and Regan Charles-Cook put the visitors two ahead. The game shifted dramatically after the break. Paul Nsio, Declan John, and Samuel Ramos all found the net in a blistering nine-minute spell to put St Mirren 3-2 up. Ramos's equaliser came from a Calvin Ramsay free-kick, while John finished after a pass from Maswanhise.
Motherwell pushed hard for a leveller and debutant Jardell Kanga delivered it deep into added time. He powered home a header from an Alex Lowry corner to secure a point. St Mirren goalkeeper Chapman had earlier saved well from Lowry, while at the other end, Paulsen made several key stops to keep Motherwell in the game, denying Jayden Richardson and Jake Young. The match also featured a VAR review for a potential handball by Alex Gogic, but the resulting penalty was missed by Maswanhise.
The draw maintains St Mirren's strong start to the campaign. They are currently 2nd in the Premiership, just two points behind leaders Celtic, with a record of two wins and a draw. The team has scored 6 goals and conceded 3 across their opening three fixtures. The squad is currently managing absences, with Keanu Baccus, Liam Donnelly, and Malik Dijksteel sidelined.
Johansson's changes saw Martin Moormann return from suspension and Tom Sparrow start, with Charles-Cook replacing Seb Palmer-Houlden. New signing Kanga began on the bench before his impactful introduction. Motherwell's Emmanuel Longelo was a persistent threat on the left flank throughout the contest. St Mirren will now look to regroup ahead of their next fixture, with their standings position providing a solid platform for the season ahead.
